How to get a Direct payment for children’s and young people’s short breaks?

0.10: There are 5 stages to go through.

0.13: Stage 1 is to go to the Short Breaks website to read the information about Short Breaks and the eligibility. The web site address is www.norfolk.gov.uk/shortbreaks

0.33: Stage 2 in the section “Who can get Short Breaks and how to apply” you will see the information on who can get a short break and also what a short break is and it explains what the Resource Allocation System (RAS) is. This is used to calculate how much a child’s individual budget would be.

1.00: Stage 3 next is the application stage. In the section “Who can get Short Breaks and how to apply” by clicking on the “apply for a Short Break” green button you can download or print off the short breaks application form. Complete the form and send it in with evidence to support, evidence can include an Education Health Care Plans (EHCP), Educational reviews, school reports or recent health reports or letters.

1.37: You can send the application in either by post using the address of the form or via email to [email protected]

1.55: Stage 4 the Short Breaks team reviews the application and the evidence provided and will inform you if the application meets the criteria or not.

2.09: Stage 5 a short breaks coordinator will contact you and agree a plan of how the budget will be spent. This can include a Framework service provider, a Prepaid Card for activities or a Direct Payment for a Personal Assistant. If a Direct payment then the coordinator will discuss the services and support available to help you with your Direct Payment.
There will be a minimum of 6 weeks from when the coordinator contacts you before it is set up.

Stage 3 – Apply with supporting evidence
Stage 4 – The application consideration
Stage 5 – Agree in the plan how to spend the budget including setting up a Direct payment if appropriate.
