Defending champions Gokulam Kerala defeated Assam Rifles and qualified for the quarterfinals. The Malabarians gave a superb performance and defeated the Assam Rifles by 7-2 goals in Kalyani Stadium. In the first half, GKFC took a lead of four goals. In a gap of a few minutes, Chisom Chikatara, Beneston Piecton Barretto, and Rahim Osumanu scored goals. Soibam Roger Singh managed to score a solitary goal in the first half for Assam Rifles. Gokulam Kerala FC appeared to be charged up in the second half and again scored three goals. In the 63rd minute, Samujal Rabha scored the final goal for Assam Rifles, thus ending their hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals. For the first time in the Durand Cup 2021, the Nigerian striker Chisom Chikatara scored a hattrick. Chisom Elvis Chikatara, with his massive performance, won the Man of the Match Award.

Asia’s oldest football tournament, the Durand Cup, is back again with a tough fight between the sixteen teams. This is the 130th edition of the tournament.
