The Singapore Turf Club held its final race on 5 October 2024, marking the end of 182 years of legacy in horse racing in Singapore. The last race day featured the 100th Grand Singapore Gold Cup, a significant event that drew thousands of spectators. The closure is part of the government plan to develop the 120 hectares of land the club occupies.

The final race day was a nostalgic event for many, with races named to honour the club's history and key figures. Spectators, including long time fans and international visitors, gathered to witness the historic occasion. The decision to close the club was influenced by declining spectatorship and the need to optimise land use for future developments.

This is a bitter sweet moment for horse racing enthusiasts. As for me, I see nostalgic places in Singapore disappearing one by one. Seems like the value of nostalgia has to give way to the value of land and business opportunities. My childhood places have been wiped out long ago. Only fading memories remain.

I am glad to be at the farewell races at the Singapore Turf Club on 5 October 2024. I have documented the final chapter in Singapore horse racing and the mood as a record for future generations. The unexpected fireworks was a nice surprise.
