Previewed as a concept at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the TVS Akula 310 racing bike received a commendable response at the event. This encouraged the home-grown bikemaker fast-track the bike’s production sooner than the original plan. The company has already started testing the Akula 310 on Indian roads, indicating a near launch. If reports are to be believed, the bike could go into production towards the end of this year or early next year.

The fully-faired sports bike is scheduled to be launched in the last quarter of this fiscal year. Speaking to media, TVS Motor’s CFO S G Murali said, “We will launch the first product fron TVS-BMW tie up by February or March 2017. As a reminder, BMW will launch the much-awaited BMW G310R naked streetfighter in India during April 2017. Reports suggest that the production version of the Akula 310 will be called TVS Apache RTR 300. Upon launch, the new TVS performance bike will compete against the KTM 390 Duke, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Yamaha R3.

TVS Motor Company has confirmed that the production-ready version of the Akula 310 concept (TVS Apache RTR 300) will be launched during this fiscal year. Media reports suggest that the bike could be launched in February or March 2017.

With an aim to keep the production costs low and price it aggressively, TVS will produce this racing motorcycle at its Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu. The new TVS racing bike is expected to be priced around Rs. 1.50 lakh – Rs. 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom).

The TVS Akula 310 derives its power from the same 313cc, single-cylinder motor that also does duty in the TVS BMW G310R. This power mill can generate a maximum power of 34bhp at 9,500rpm, while producing a peak torque of 28Nm at 7,500rpm. Power will be transmitted to the rear wheels via a 6-speed gearbox. TVS claims that the Akula will come with a high rev peak capability.
