Shivaji Nagar is a locality in the city of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The area is named after the great Maratha warrior, Shivaji Bhosale.

During the British colonial era, Shivaji Nagar was known as Blackpalli. The area was developed as a residential area for the British soldiers and was also home to several administrative offices.

After Indian independence in 1947, the area was renamed Shivaji Nagar in honor of the Maratha king. It became a hub for the Marathi-speaking community, who had migrated to Bangalore from Maharashtra. The area still has a significant Marathi-speaking population today.

Over time, Shivaji Nagar has developed into a bustling commercial and residential area. It is now a popular destination for shopping, with numerous bazaars and markets offering a variety of goods, including textiles, electronics, and household items. The area is also home to several prominent educational institutions, including St. Joseph's College and the Indian Institute of Science.

In recent years, Shivaji Nagar has undergone significant urbanization and modernization. The area has seen the development of several modern residential and commercial projects, including high-rise buildings, malls, and office complexes. However, despite the modernization, Shivaji Nagar still retains its unique cultural identity, and the area continues to be a significant cultural and historical landmark in the city of Bangalore.
