'I never asked you to.'
His face went red. 'So you're just... quitting? To do what? Take pictures?'
'Yes.'
He stood up. 'You're making the biggest mistake of your life. Don't come crying to me when you fail.' He left. Didn't pay for his coffee.
My mom called that night, crying. 'How could you do this to him?' My sister texted: 'You're so selfish.'
I felt like the worst son in the world. But I also felt... something else. Lighter."
