Henry VIII is most famously known for the fact he had six wives, and two of these met their ends in bloody fashion inside the walls of the Tower of London. The King ordered the executions of Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, but Anne Boleyn is regarded as one of the most important consorts that England has ever had. Her marriage to Henry VIII divided the country and ushered in a period of great religious turmoil and change, and many in the country refused to support Anne's role as Queen. Her predecessor Catherine of Aragon it's believed by many was treated incredibly harshly, but Anne when she came onto the throne spent lavishly. But Henry VIII's eye wandered towards a new woman at court, Jane Seymour and he asked Thomas Cromwell to find him a way out of his marriage to Anne. Cromwell created a web of lies and deceit that saw Anne accused of adultery, treason and incest.

This all resulted in Anne Boleyn's execution at the Tower of London on Tower Green, in which a French Swordsman struck off her head in one swift and clean blow. Her remains were then interred inside the Tower's church, the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula which is meters from where she was executed. But in the 1800s, Queen Victoria ordered large scale renovations to the dilapidated chapel, and because of this the workmen were forced to dig up a number of the high profile people who were buried there. This included Anne Boleyn, and using a drawing of the known burials they were able to find Anne's body and forensically examine it. It was noted how she had a little neck, and seemed to be around 5 feet to 4 feet 3 inches tall. It was also stated how it was definitely the remains of a beheaded woman, as the head was separated from the body. After this, Anne's remains were laid to rest for good, over 300 years since she was initially buried.
