Also, for the bromeliads: It is best to create some open area from the roots so they attach into the wood for efficiently. Cutting a tiny portion of the base on the bottom to expose as well as trimming the roots can make a huge difference in your success mounting vs. planting. Sorry if it was not clear on that!
