Growing up Half-Japanese (I've Never Told Anyone This...)★ Powell St. Festival Reflections【ハーフあるある】

I reflect on Vancouver’s Powell St. Festival and my experience growing up half-Japanese in BC, Canada. It depends where you grew up (which country, small town, big city), but there can be isolation, racism, and discrimination. Most YouTube videos highlight the positives of being half Japanese, but there is a huge struggle that many do not address.

カナダBC州で白人と日本人のハーフとして生まれ育った私が、バンクーバーのパウエル祭に関連して思い巡らせた事をお話します。 どの国で育ったか、育った所が大きい街か小さな田舎かで様々な影響があるのですが、私のような立場の者は、孤立したり、差別を受けたり偏見に悩まされたりするという精神的苦痛を伴うことが多々あります。 ユーチューブ動画は往々にしてハーフである事が得であるかのような印象を与えます。しかし、ハーフであったり、人種や文化の分岐点に立ったりして生きている人達の苦しみや問題点に迫る深刻な課題を取り上げた動画は殆ど見かけません。
