How have security and privacy awareness programs changed over the last several years?

If you look at the evolution of security awareness programs, if you take it back five to six years, generally security awareness was a rinse and repeat exercise where all employees that an organization would be required to watch a video, sometimes of extraordinary length once a year and that was security awareness.
If you evolve a few years from that point, eventually phishing simulations became part of those programs. There was kind of a buzz, and maybe there still is a buzz around click through rates and phishing simulation.

But where things are really headed and where you're seeing organizations evolve is starting to not only look at security awareness, but starting to look at risks that span the security, privacy, and compliance domains.

You're seeing an evolution where programs need to account for risks and roles, and different degrees of specificity based on the type of information, and the job function and the levels of access that individual employees have in an organization. So, what was once a once-a-year activity, is now something that requires a programmatic approach that is both role and risk specific, which is entirely different than what organizations were utilizing many years ago.
