Woodturning project - Turning an Endgrain Walnut Bowl with Sapwood

Описание к видео Woodturning project - Turning an Endgrain Walnut Bowl with Sapwood

I've been turning some end grain bowls lately and decided to do one from a decent size walnut log I've had around for several months. I love making a bowl out of an entire cross section of a tree - you can count all the rings from pith to bark. Unfortunately, I waited a bit too long for this piece and the sapwood has started to darken and turn brown - it still came out pretty good though. I used my usual tools - various bowl gouges, skew for the tenon, bowl scraper, skew for touching up, and probably the long hollowing tool at some point. I also tested out my Termite Tool again and didn't have much luck with an outside to inside cut; it may have been a little dull. End grain bowls are tricky because you can't really cut directly into the end grain; you have to catch a little edge with a peeling cut, then slowly work it deeper. On a deeper bowl, it would be more practical to drill a hole in the center and use the bowl gouge cutting from the center toward the outside of the bowl with a pulling & peeling cut. Thanks for watching! It blows my mind how much time people spend watching my videos... I hope you're all getting something useful or entertaining from it!
