Gangotri Dham is a sacred pilgrimage site situated in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the four holy shrines in India collectively known as Char Dham Yatra, the other three being Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.

Gangotri Dham is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, and it is believed that the River Ganges originated from Gangotri glacier, which is located at an altitude of 3,100 meters above sea level in the Garhwal Himalayas. The Gangotri temple, which is situated at an altitude of 3,042 meters, is the main attraction for the pilgrims. The temple was built by the Gurkha general Amar Singh Thapa in the early 18th century.

The Gangotri Dham opens for devotees every year on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya in the month of May and remains open till Diwali in October or November. The best time to visit Gangotri Dham is from May to June and from September to November, as the weather is pleasant and favorable for the pilgrims.

Apart from the religious significance, Gangotri Dham is also a popular trekking destination, and many trekkers come here to explore the beautiful Himalayan ranges. The trek to Gaumukh glacier, which is the source of River Ganges, is a famous trekking route that starts from Gangotri Dham.
