Firstly, a small correction. I keep saying ‘face’ when referring to Gautamiputra Satakarni’s overstriking of Nahapana’s coins. It was not his face that he stamped over Nahapana’s. It was the Satavahana symbol. As of late, I have been overworked and overtired (which is also why the follow up posts have been paused for now, but more on that later), and I have been prone to making some very careless mistakes. This is one of them.

Other than that, this is a silver drachma that I find fascinating. Not only is it overstruck with the Satavahana symbol of the three arched mountain, it also contains Brahmi lettering that says , ‘Rajno Gotamiputasa Siri Satakanisa’ or simply speaking - Raja Gautamiputra Sri Satakarni. On the obverse, in Tamil Brahmi letters, it again proclaims the name of the king.
