A video capturing the scenery of Incheon Port from 117 years ago during the Korean Empire has been discovered in France.

It vividly depicts the daily lives of the residents at that time.

What did it look like?

Reporter Park Jae-woo has the details.

On the six-lane road leading to Incheon Station, towers and churches commemorating early missionaries such as Allen, Appenzeller, and Underwood have been established.

117 years ago, this area was a waterfront leading to Jemulpo Port.

Sailing ships are lined up at the dock, and people are bustling about loading and unloading goods from the boats, bringing life to the nearby roads.

[Bae Seong-soo/Head of Incheon City Museum: "I think this can be used as the most vivid material to show Incheon’s appearance between 1905 and 1910, just before the Japanese colonial period."]

Workers are loading sacks of rice onto the boats, while timber is being transported from the ships.

This video was filmed by a Frenchman around February to March 1908 and was discovered and restored by the Korean Film Archive among old materials from the French film archive, 'Cinémathèque Française.'

[Kim Hong-jun/Director of Korean Film Archive: "Since it was untouched in the warehouse, it remained in its original state for over 100 years. You can think of it as being in a state similar to an undisturbed tomb."]

The video captures the early appearances of modern buildings that still exist today, such as rice warehouses and Japanese banks.

Incheon City plans to exhibit this video at the newly opened Museum Park.
