We selected three courses from Coursera platform which are united in one called “Social Entrepreneurship Specialization”. It’s like three steps. First one is about How to identify Social Entrepreneurship Opportunities. The course clarifies the definition and meaning of Social Entrepreneurship and focuses on the roots of social problems. You will learn how to recognize complementary and antagonistic assets and turn them into opportunities. It will help you to create a business for social change. This course is some sort of introduction to the social entrepreneurship topic.

The second one in this trio is “Social Business Model and Planning for Social Innovation”. This step is about the financial stability of social ventures. During this course, you will develop a business model and start writing your business plan. Moreover, you will be able to assess different organizational forms and select the one that is appropriate for your developed business model. By the end of the course, you will be able to compare different social impact investment methods and choose the right funding strategy for your social venture. By concluding this course your social venture will have reached an important milestone in the development process.

And the third one “Unleashing the Impact of your Social Enterprise”. You will be able to develop a method to evaluate the social mission that you achieve while implementing your business plan. Next, you will outline an appropriate communication strategy for your social enterprise and will demonstrate how to market your products and services to customers. You will determine growth strategies and how you can scale or replicate your business plan internationally in order to reach a larger number of beneficiaries. So the logic of these three courses is clear: from an idea, through business plan up to impact scaling.

If three courses are too much for you, you can choose more compact one at Udemy platform called “Social Entrepreneurship: An Introduction”. It includes 7 modules from which you will understand the meaning of social entrepreneurship, strengthen diagnostic, evaluation and planning skills, improve practical knowledge important to effectiveness in social innovation and enterprise leadership. The course contains one-hour video lectures and various materials for reading and self-education. More than 7000 students already got through this course; I think it is a good result and recommendation.

And the last course from Social Finance Academy is called “Access to Impact Investment for Social Enterprises”. This course is most suitable for social enterprises that are going through the first round of fundraising. The course consists of “18 Steps Framework”, covering the main challenges along the entire “life-cycle” of a social enterprise from a financing perspective – from defining the theory of change via securing investment until managing post-investment activities. A major focus of the course lies on raising social entrepreneurs’ confidence and ability to successfully attract investors.
