Nakamichi RX-505 playing a 1984 prerecorded cassette of Joe Jackson’s “Happy Ending” from Body and Soul. This is a “Reference Recording by Nakamichi” cassette with a real-time transfer from digital master to TDK metal tape using Nak decks. Sound quality is decent, but not as great as might be expected. I have many standard-quality cassettes in my collection that have better dynamics. Part of the problem is that that these seem to have been recorded at too-low of a level to take advantage of the metal tape.
