The EmpowerAX demo part is a collaborative project within DLR - Institut für Systemleichtbau, in which leading industrial players and research organizations joint forces to demonstrate the capability of overprinting a thermoset multi-curved shell with fiber reinforced materials.

Over the past few weeks, their team has already provided insights into the design by PRIME Aerostructures, with materials supplied by Ensinger GmbH, Suprem and Airtech Advanced Materials Group, manufacturing of tooling by @CEAD Group and the basic structure by German Aerospace Center (DLR) e.V., as well as path and fiber planning by SWMS and 9T Labs.

By using a robotic WEBER DXR system and an AE 30 extruder, WEBER printed the CF/PEI stiffening ribs on the multi-curved base structure of the EmpowerAX demo part in less than one hour printing time. The printing was realized in a coworking session together with DLR EmpowerAX team and SWMS in the development center of WEBER additive in Kronach, Germany. An impressive collaboration!
