Cognitive Development is defined as the emergence of the ability to consciously cognize, understand, and expectations from learners.

• Development proceeds in an orderly and predictable manner.
• There are periods of rapid growth in between periods of slower growth.
• Different individuals develop at different rates.
• Development is continually affected by both nature and nurture.
• Children are active scientist of their world.
• Children make sense of the world through schemes.
• Children adapt by refining their schemes and adding new ones.
• Schemes change from physical to function, conceptual, and abstract as the child develops.
