In a shocking development, the Delhi High Court has suspended the life sentence of Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the expelled former BJP MLA and convicted rapist in the Unnao rape case.

Sengar was found guilty by a trial court for raping a minor girl in 2017, a case that shook the conscience of the nation. The survivor fought nine long years for justice—years marked by relentless intimidation and tragedy. During this period, her father died in police custody, her uncle was jailed, and her lawyer along with two aunts were killed in a mysterious car accident. Desperate for justice, the survivor was even forced to attempt self-immolation outside the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s residence to draw national attention to her case.

In this exclusive interview, Barkha Dutt speaks to the rape survivor, who says the Delhi High Court order left her shattered and contemplating suicide, but she continues to fight for the sake of her two children.
