In August this year, the government shocked sellers of IT hardware like laptops, PCs and tablets by announcing import restrictions and licences. It then softened its stand and said this is not licence raj, but just ensuring the hardware is imported from trusted partners, and the government should be in the know. In parallel, a short deadline for Hardware PLI applications was opened that received about 40 entries for the subsidy scheme. In between all this - the government pushed the deadline on imports restrictions once, to 1st November. Now, to the relief of some, the government has cancelled the restrictive imports altogether.
