Saint Malachy, whose name means “My Messenger,” is the last of the twelve Minor Prophets of the Old Testament and the final prophetic voice before the coming of Christ. He lived in the 5th century BC, after the Jewish people had returned from exile in Babylon, during a time of spiritual decline and religious complacency.

The Book of Malachi, the final book of the Old Testament, delivers a powerful call to renewal. Through Malachy, God confronts corruption among priests, lukewarm worship, injustice, and broken covenant faithfulness. His words challenge both religious leaders and the people to return to sincere worship, moral integrity, and reverence for God.

Saint Malachy is especially remembered for his prophetic announcement of a coming messenger who would prepare the way of the Lord—a prophecy Christians recognise as fulfilled in Saint John the Baptist, who prepares the way for Jesus Christ. This makes Malachy a key prophetic bridge between the Old Testament and the New.

His message resonates strongly during Advent, reminding believers to prepare their hearts for the Lord’s coming with repentance, faithfulness, and hope. Saint Malachy is commemorated on December 18 in the Roman Martyrology.
