This was an entry for Dwelling of Duels - May 2025 Forest vs Jungle. The Yasunori Mitsdua classic, the Secret of the Forest from the amazing Chrono Trigger, was on my bucket list and this theme was perfect for it. The question for me though was how to approach the arrangement since this was covered so extensively. How can I put my own spin on it? My initial reaction to cover it is to go for an Opeth, specifically from Damnation, vibe. That is how I initially approached it, however when I brought in a collaborator, Mattmatatt, he really knocked it out of the park with arrangement ideas. He actually kept it in the spirit of Opeth even though that was not his intention. I really like how much of a journey the song goes on. Personally, I think we could have extended a few sections but what is here absolutely rocks! We placed 23 out of 36 for the month.
