Portal Hypertension and Shunts in Children

Описание к видео Portal Hypertension and Shunts in Children

Portal hypertension is an increase in blood pressure in the portal vein and shunts form to divert blood around the blockage. Learn how we treat portal hypertension and shunts in children.

Portal hypertension can be caused by things like a blockage due to a blood clot (thrombosis), a malformation of the portal vein itself and scarring on the liver (cirrhosis). In addition to diagnosing and treating the root cause of portal hypertension, our doctors treat the shunts that form as a result. Without treatment, portal hypertension and the resulting shunts can lead to severe complications.
