Chamber Sonata (2024)

The Chamber Sonata is single-movement piece for mixed chamber ensemble of flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, and percussion. The series of contrasting sections is unified by a 4-note melodic cell, a recurring melodic contour, several related chord progressions, and a palindromic duration series. A regular metric pulse drives the piece forward through its varied moods. There is no extra-musical program. Like much of my music, this piece is a synthesis of old and new, plus a few elements from jazz. In my work I aim for beauty and comprehensibility.
