In a bold move to secure the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) contract, Embraer has introduced an innovative proposal for its C-390M Millennium aircraft. Known for its primary role as a versatile and efficient transport platform, the C-390M could potentially evolve into a multi-role asset for the IAF.

Embraer’s proposal includes adding weaponized capabilities, positioning the C-390M as more than just a transport aircraft. The Brazilian aerospace manufacturer aims to enhance its offering with hardpoints under the aircraft's wings, allowing the C-390M to carry air-to-surface weapon systems. This would enable it to carry out critical combat and maritime security roles in addition to its transport duties, potentially making it an indispensable asset for India’s defense forces.

The C-390M is a modern, medium-sized transport aircraft designed for various military roles. It has a powerful engine and advanced systems that give it high fuel efficiency, making it perfect for long-range missions. The aircraft can carry up to 26 tons of cargo, including military vehicles, equipment, and pallets. It is highly maneuverable and can operate from short and rough airstrips, giving it flexibility in many operational environments. Its modern fly-by-wire control system ensures smooth handling and precision during missions.

One of the most notable aspects of Embraer’s proposal is the addition of hardpoints under the aircraft’s wings. These hardpoints would allow the C-390M to carry powerful air-to-surface weapons, such as the Rudram-II missile, developed by the IAF. The C-390M could also carry NASM-MR anti-ship missiles, which would make it a suitable platform for both the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. This weaponized version would allow the aircraft to perform strike missions on land and sea, expanding its role beyond that of a transport aircraft.
