Two of China's leaders in humanoid robotics are unleashing their potentially-game changing next-generation machines into the world.

Hangzhou-based Unitree Robotics, whose humanoids are already becoming ubiquitous, is bringing the cost to entry to a new low, while Shanghai's Fourier is targeting the consumer market with something completely different. They're positioning their intelligent robots as Trojan horses for bringing physical AI into homes, schools, and workplaces at scale.
It could be the beginning of a whole new era.

Unitree Robotics introduced its latest entry, the R1, just over a year after its short king, the G1, brought the entry price of research-grade humanoids to a new low of $16,000.

With a starting price under $6,000, the R1 is $10,000, or 60 percent, cheaper. Standing 127 cm (4'2"), the newcomer is about the same height as the G1. However, it's 30 percent lighter at just 25 kg (55 lbs).

The R1 boasts 26 articulated joints for fluid and acrobatic movements like cartwheels, punches, and handstands. It's geared toward researchers, developers, and everyday tech enthusiasts.

According to Unitree, the new humanoid interacts with people and its surroundings with its multi modal large language model. Its aesthetics are fully customizable.
