This is a piece of gear I was extremely excited to experiment with because up until this point I have never owned a wooden hoop.

This hand made 10 hole, 19 ply Maple Snare Drum Hoop from Stellar Drums was a fantastic hoop to start that journey with.

If y’all remember the comparison video from this past Tuesday you will recall that this wooden hoop slightly dried out the tone while providing more control and focus to it.

Along with giving a controlled and focused sound you also get a durable, light weight workhorse of a wooden hoop that give you all the benefits of a wood hoop while not changing the feel of your rimshots too much.

Lastly, the side stick/rim click on this hoop is absolutely incredible. Very defined and really does provide the volume to cut through any mix and distinguish the snares versatility and tone.

The 19 ply Maple snare drum hoop are the Yamaha replicas that you would find on the classic Steve Jordan Signature snare drum.

They are the same size and shape hoop as the Vintage SPV Maple Snare Drum Hoop. Although, the SPV models are made from 7 thick hand cut plies with the wood grain running around the hoop instead of cross laminated veneers like this 19 ply hoop is.
