제주국제학교 (NLCS) North London Collegiate School, Jeju

영국 사립학교 NLCS의 정주형 교육프로그램을 도입하여 제주에 건립된 제주국제학교 노스 런던 컬리지게이트 스쿨은 초등, 중등, 고등학교, 중앙도서관, 900석 공연장, 미술 음악실, 식당, 스포츠센터, 학년별 기숙사 등 다양한 건축물로 구성되어 있습니다. 동양과 서양, 자연과 건축, 영국교육과 국제학생 등 다양한 조건과 상황의 조화로운 융합이 NLCS JEJU 자체의 고유성으로 구축될 수 있도록 설계하였습니다.
제주도 중산간지대의 지형, 곶자왈과 강한 바람에 순응하도록 건축물을 분동/분산 배치하여 바람길과 통경축을 조성했으며, 영국식 외부 중정과 건물 내부공간의 중정, 천창, 고측창, 아트리움에서 제주의 자연을 느낄 수 있도록 계획했습니다. 각 건축물의 MASS와 입면에 모듈과 분절을 도입하여 완결성을 가지도록 했으며, 더불어 동일한 입면재료와 패턴을 도입하고 변주하여 하나의 건축물로 인지되도록 하였습니다. 제주영어교육도시의 MA(MASTER ARCHITECT) 이타미 준과 협의를 통해 선정한 외벽마감재인 제주석, 자연목재, 알루미늄캐스트, U-GLASS을 통해서 NLCS JEJU가 시간의 흐름을 따라서 제주 자연의 일부로 동화되도록 했습니다..

Jeju Offering a curriculum based on that of NLCS UK, the school is composed of various programs required by the curriculum. Its uniqueness is defined by the harmonious combination of various conditions and context such as the East and West, nature and architecture, and British education and international students. The British style outdoor and indoor courtyards, skylight, clerestory, and atrium bring in nature of Jeju.
The module and division applied to the mass and elevation of each building integrate the entire facility, and the same materials and patterns of elevation were introduced in various ways to enable the users to perceive the buildings as a single architecture. Through the consultation with the late master architect Itami Jun, Jeju stone, natural wood, aluminum cast, and U-glass were selected as the material for the exterior, so that NLCS Jeju would be assimilate into a part of Jeju’s nature with time.
