My transcription & interpretation of a superb bassline by the brilliant bass player, Ralphe Armstrong. Much work was involved in listening and attempting to capture all of the riffs, improvisations, slides, triplet figures, in creating by ear and from 'scratch' this five (5) page transcription in standard notation that is being sight read note-for-note in this video to be faithful to the original recording by the great Bass Master Ralphe Armstrong.
Ralphe played with Jean-Luc Ponty on this tune from the great 1977 album, "Cosmic Messenger".
A fellow Detroiter, Ralphe played either a Fender Jazz Bass or a Fender Precision for the recordings and live performances in those years. Ralphe also distinguished himself for his extraordinary bass playing along with the Mahvishnu Orchestra, for example, listen to Egocentric Molicules! Btw, I have completed this bass transcription project from 'scratch' and it was fun to transcribe and play.

My bass is a Rickenbacker 4003 Jetglo, made in February 2018. The bridge pickup is covered with my original designed piece of polished stainless steel to look pretty. The tone switch is 'pushed in' to attain a Modern tone. The strings are still the same Rickenbacker factory-issued when new,
medium gauge roundwound strings, and playing thru Marshall B25 MK-II amplifier with
no additional sound effects.
