The Antarctic Peninsula is an ecologically unique and biologically rich region, but it is also one of the fastest warming areas on the planet. Furthermore, the Peninsula has a relatively large human presence (compared to the rest of Antarctica), with fishing, tourism, and scientific research all taking place. Now, the creation of an international marine protected area (MPA) has been proposed to protect the Peninsula’s biodiversity and increase ecosystem resilience in a changing climate. Watch to learn why so many different people all over the world are dedicated to conserving this vital ecosystem.
