Ingredient List
For the Filling:
1 stick softened butter
½ cup onions (diced)
½ cup bell peppers (diced)
½ cup celery (diced)
1 tbsp chicken bouillon
1 tbsp Old Bay seasoning
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp gumbo filet
1 tsp black pepper
½ cup flour
4 cups chicken broth
1 lb smoked sausage (browned)
1 lb shrimp (peeled & deveined)
1 cup snow crab meat
For the Crust:
Pre-made puff pastry or pie crust
1 egg (for egg wash)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1️⃣ Melt the Butter: In a pan over medium heat, melt 1 stick of softened butter.
2️⃣ Sauté the Holy Trinity: Add diced onions, bell peppers, and celery. Let it cook down for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
3️⃣ Season it Up: Mix in chicken bouillon, Old Bay, onion powder, garlic powder, thyme, paprika, gumbo filet, and black pepper.
4️⃣ Thicken the Base: Stir in ½ cup flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Slowly add in 4 cups of chicken broth, stirring constantly until thickened.
5️⃣ Brown the Sausage: In a separate pan, brown the smoked sausage, then add it to the mix.
6️⃣ Add the Seafood: Stir in shrimp and snow crab meat, cooking for 2-3 minutes until just cooked through. Set the filling aside to cool.
7️⃣ Prepare the Crust: Roll out the puff pastry or pie crust slightly larger than your dish.
8️⃣ Fill & Seal: Place the cooled filling into a ramekin or pie dish. Lay the pastry over the top, sealing the edges.
9️⃣ Egg Wash & Vent: Brush the top with egg wash and poke a few holes to vent.
🔟 Bake: Place in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 25 minutes, until golden brown.
