As we approach the final week of August... are we finally in for some relief from this extreme summer heat? Let's go over to our Lee Jeehyun at the weather center.
Jeehyun, will we finally see the end of this unprecedented heat?

Well, Connyoung. The reason behind this year's extreme heat, according to the weather agency, was an extraordinarily warm air mass from China's been drifting in from the west -- not to mention that China's had its own severe heatwave this year. Also the North Pacific High, which is a more-or-less permanent weather system,... has been bringing heat and humidity from the east. So we've been trapped in a hot and sunny pattern for a while. But, some welcome news -- starting tonight, cooler air from the north will finally move south

So, as of 4PM this afternoon, the heat wave alerts in most parts of the country, including the capital, have been lifted. And some welcome rain is in store for the upper parts of the country, and that should cool us off a bit. Also, the tropical nights here in Seoul will come to an end.

This summer, the capital has seen 32 so-called tropical nights, when temperatures stay above 25 degrees Celsius. That's easily the second highest number on record.

So let's see just how much relief we can expect tomorrow.
Seoul, Daejeon and Gwangju will start out at 24 degrees Celsius.

The highs will come down into the twenties in Seoul hitting 29 degrees,... while Daegu and Gwangju will get up to 27 and 28.

Looking ahead, the heat will die down... but it's still a while before we'll feel autumn in the air.
