KEN CURTIS: “THE HILLS OF UTAH”

Описание к видео KEN CURTIS: “THE HILLS OF UTAH”

[PLEASE READ] Sweet and mellow “campfire song” by a master Western vocalist.

The song: “The Hills of Utah” by Hy Heath (songwriter of “Mule Train”).
From the film: STALLION CANYON (aka Wild Horse Range) [original American premiere: June 15, 1949]

Ken Curtis, the actor, was also a member of the singing Sons of the Pioneers by this time. He is joined in these clips notably by both Western chanteuse Carolina Cotton and character actor Shug Fisher, who was an on-again, off-again contributor to the Sons of the Pioneers as well as Ken’s best friend.

“Lest we forget”: Ken Curtis’s long and legendary association with the unkempt “hick” role of “Festus Haggen” in TV’s “GUNSMOKE” unfortunately obscures his earlier work as a heroic, crooning leading man. With his warm, intelligent demeanor and pearly voice raised eloquently in song, he made more than half a dozen Columbia Westerns in this more distinguished or “clean-cut” vein, often teamed with Guinn “Big Boy” Williams and the ingenious, novelty musical troupe The Hoosier Hotshots.
