Описание к видео Town’s Fleet of Surplus Federal Equipment Marks Two Years of Sandy Recovery Work

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Congressman Peter King today marked the two year anniversary of a governmental partnership that provided Hempstead Town with a fleet of valuable equipment that has performed cleanup and restoration work in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Heralding the partnership as an example of the very best in governmental collaboration for the public benefit, the officials pointed out that the federal surplus equipment was procured at no direct cost to local taxpayers.

“In the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, our government had a need for several pieces of heavy equipment to remove debris, help restore beachfronts and move relief items and other material throughout the town,” stated Murray. “I want to thank Congressman King for helping to facilitate the transfer of valuable surplus equipment to our township in a time of dire need.”

The fleet of federal surplus equipment, which has an estimated value of $1.3 million, was secured through a New York State administered surplus equipment program. The fleet includes a military crane, two dump trucks, a marine hi-lo fork lift, two freightliner truck tractors and a 24-foot patrol boat. Some of the specific tasks performed by the equipment include the following:

Military Crane Removal of 30’ boat and other large obstructions from
roadways, removal of damaged boats from water.

Dump Trucks Debris removal from roadways and distribution of sand
along shoreline to restore damaged dune structure.

Truck Tractors Transport work materials, relief items and other material
between town work sites.

Boat (recently acquired) Will be used for rescue, BWI enforcement and coastal
damage assessments.

Marine Hi-Lo Fork Lift Deployment and recovery of marine equipment utilized for
storm recovery and other work.

“I am always happy to work with local governments as they respond to emergency situations and help those impacted by natural disasters,” said King. “Kate Murray and I worked closely together in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, and the federal surplus equipment that was conveyed to Hempstead Town made recovery and restoration work proceed more quickly.”

The officials noted that the surplus equipment is continuing to serve as a valuable asset in the ordinary course of town work. The types of work that the equipment is performing on an ongoing basis, includes coastal bulkhead/revetment repair and maintenance, deployment and recovery of town bay constable fleet of boats, transportation of sand, stone and fill for various projects, among other tasks.

“I want to thank Congressman King for his help in making sure that our town has gotten the help it needed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and Governor Cuomo for the assistance the town has received from New York State’s surplus equipment program,” concluded Murray. “Not only have we received valuable equipment at no direct cost to local tax payers, but we have also been able to help more people in a shorter period of time with the help of this surplus equipment.”
