Despite being some of the richest men in the world, the three billionaires of this video’s title do not seem particularly happy people – in my terms, they suffer from “poor mental wealth”. To explore how money fails to guarantee happiness I use a philosophical paper by the Finnish philosopher Timo Airaksinen to analyse the slippery notion of desire and its relationship to anxiety.

This video also acts as an early introduction for future videos and their focus upon the work of the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. For visual illustrations that serve to break up discussion of text, I use images from the recent Venice Wedding of Jeff Bezos and various paintings by Monet, Mondrian and Turner.
