THE MAKING OF DUBAI GARDEN GLOW
A behind-the-scenes look at how the new attractions came into being

Dubai Garden Glow has been drawing visitors in droves since it opened last month. From the Ice Park, its brand-new attraction for the third season featuring ice sculptures, to the glow park with newly designed art installations, the garden has impressed UAE residents and tourists alike.

That’s no happy accident.

Every year as summer sets in, Dubai Garden Glow pulls down its installations to start afresh for the next season. In its second year, the focus was on erecting the dinosaur park with about 100 animatronic prehistoric creatures, in addition to a host of underwater- and forest-themed glow attractions.

Pièce de résistance

For this season, Dubai Garden Glow set its sights even higher – it created a cool oasis in the middle of the desert dotted with sculptures carved in ice. About 5,000 tonnes of locally made ice was used to craft Dubai landmarks, Arctic animals and exotic structures.

Mega show

The glow garden was also transformed into a riotous world of lights and colours, replacing the old with a variety of new and intriguing installations. Everything from the Colourful World and the Sea World to the Happiness Street and Candy Land was built from scratch. About five hundred men and women worked together to put up the grand show at the garden.

Play of lights

More than 10 million LED lights were used to make the garden glow this season. Artists took about three months to painstakingly build these intricately designed structures that burn bright in the night. What’s more, all the attractions from the oil rigs to the water set were handmade.

Greener and brighter

This year, five tonnes of recycled fabric was shaped into delicately crafted designs and patterns across 100 acres. Through its art installations inspired by nature and wildlife, Dubai Garden Glow not only cements its green credentials but also spreads the message of protecting the environment.

Tribute to Dubai

One of the most significant installations this year at Dubai Garden Glow is the famous hand sign of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which stands for win, victory and love.
