לא קל להיקלט לתוך משפחה חדשה, בטח כשמדובר במשפחת בנאי. אחרי שבפרקים הקודמים נעשו גישושים שהובילו אותי לדמויות מפתח כמו: התאילנדי של גברי, המוזיקאי המחונן זאביק, ואפילו הרב של אביתר בנאי בכבודו ובעצמו, הפעם החלטתי לשנות כיוון ולארח אצלי בתכנית אנשים מוכשרים וטובים, שגם הם בדרך לחולל סופה קטנה במוזיקה הישראלית.

אני לא בא להיות כבד עכשיו, אבל אם עוצרים לחשוב על זה רגע, ההבדל בין אלה שמאמינים בחיים אחרי המוות לאחיהם הפאטליסטים נעוץ בכלל בהעדפותיהם האומנותיות: סוף פתוח מול סוף פסוק.

מוות. קשה לקבל סוף כל-כך סופי, בטח במקרים בהם אנחנו מרגישים שהסוף לא היה מוצדק. וכי איזה מוות הוא מוצדק? למה לא לפרגן עוד כמה שעות מלאות קרני שמש? חודשים? אולי שנים? זה הפתרון של אנשי הסוף הפתוח. הבה נוסיף לסוף.

ולעומתם יש את המצדדים בסופיות הסוף, פינליסטים אם תרצו. וכי הם חסרי חוש צדק? האם הבטן שלהם לא מתכווצת למראה חיים שנגדעו באיבם? אלה סוברים, אולי, שהסוף לא חייב להשליך על כל מה שהיה לפניו. הדרך נעשתה במנותק מהסוף. הסוף הינו פרק בפני עצמו, וככזה, הוא לא בהכרח צובע רטרואקטיבית את כל היצירה בצבעים עזים של מוות. כאשר מאמצים את הגישה הזו, כשמשתחררים ככה מהסוף והופכים אותו לעוד פרק, מגלים שכל פרק בדרך הוא בעל חשיבות מונומנטלית, והמשמעות לא בהכרח טמונה בסוף העלילה.

It ain't easy being accepted into a new family, and that's especially true regarding the Banai family. After initial explorations in previous chapters led me to key figures such as: Gavri's Thai, The gifted musician Zevik, And even Eviatar Banai's rabbi in person, this time I decided to change things up and host on my show a bunch of talented and fine folk, who are also on their way to stir up a little storm in the Israeli music scene.

I don’t want to be a downer, but if you stop to think about it for a minute, the difference between those who believe in life after death and their fatalist counterparts lies in their artistic preferences: open ending versus definitive ending.

Death. It’s hard to accept such a finite ending, especially in cases where we feel the end was unjustified. And what death is in-fact justified? Why not grant a few more sunlit hours? Maybe months? Years? That, in a nutshell, is the solution of the open-ended people: let’s add onto the end.

And then there are those who support the finality of the end, finalists if you will. Are they devoid of a sense of justice? Does their stomach not churn at the sight of a life cut short? These people might argue that the end doesn’t have to cast a shadow over everything that came before it. The journey was taken independently of the end. The end is merely a chapter in the story, and as such, it doesn’t retroactively paint the entire work with vivid colors of death. When adopting this approach, when freeing oneself from the end and turning it into just another chapter, one discovers that each chapter along the way holds monumental significance, and the meaning doesn’t necessarily lie in the end of the story.

Circling back to our world – even if after all is said and done, your work fails to receive recognition, that in itself doesn’t necessarily prove anything about its quality or essence. And so here is the actual advice that I, Moshe Banai, want to give my friends in episode 5, who’ve set out to portray the members of Mashina. Hear me well: even if the band Mashina, its leaders, advisors, managers, and lawyers, even if they end up not authorizing you to use the band’s music in your production – for me, you will always be considered official actors who are accurately representing Mashina, no doubt.
