What is Obesity? Obesity is defined as an excess of fat in the body. When does obesity turn into a disease? Because of an excess of fat deposition in the body, illness develops and becomes a disease. That is incorrect. Obesity is caused by a variety of factors.

Obesity Statistics in the World: Obesity has increased threefold worldwide since 1975. 100 crore people are suffering from obesity right now. In those 65 crores are adults rest of them are children. If obesity continues to rise at this rate, by 2030, half of the world's population will be obese. It is a global obesity statistic

Obesity statistics in India: In India, 5% of the population means 7 crore people among 140 crores suffering from obesity. Of that 65%, of men and women are overweight. 60% of children are overweight. If children are overweight now, they will suffer from obesity in adults. Since so many crores of people are suffering from obesity, in the future, one-third will suffer from obesity. In Tamil Nadu, most women are obese compared to men.

Obesity is higher in cities than in villages. When compared to illiterates, educated people are obese. Here, we could see a lot of differences. At the same time, 40 per cent of women and 36 per cent of men in Tamil Nadu are obese. Tamil Nadu is ranked fourth in India for the obesity rate.
