Pier fluking has grown on me over the years, and it's sort of an amalgam of shore and boat fluking in one. Obviously you're not on a boat, but the deck puts you right over deeper water, and the presentation is much more vertical than fishing from a sloping beach. Using a long net is also reminiscent of party boat fluking. The jigging techniques involved can be quite different from shore jigging as well.
