"Song of the Earth", the second single from "Gravitations", is one of its most rhythmically alive. Drawing directly from Mahler’s iconic piece, bassist-composer Haggai Cohen-Milo weaves a rich tapestry of jazz, classical, and hip hop in a track that swings, reflects, and transforms. Listeners will catch glimpses of Mahler’s original motifs, culminating in a nearly faithful quote of his theme, reimagined in the ensemble’s distinctive voice. Rather than fusing genres, Cohen-Milo and his collaborators enter into dialogue with the past, orbiting the original work through improvisation and emotion to create something strikingly present and new.
