We are called to pause to recognize the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces. Their service reminds us that the freedoms we enjoy each day were earned through bravery and selflessness. Having escaped communism 44 years ago and served in the Navy for 30 years, Veterans Day has a special meaning in my life.

My short published memoir on Amazon, "Gift of Faith: A Foretaste of Heaven," provides a refugee experience of the new culture in America in the first couple of chapters. It should be an interesting read since we have a border crisis with an increased flow of migrants. The sale of this book will support the Marriage and Family Enrichment Program, which is the movement in the Vietnamese community to strengthen marriage- and family-centered in the Holy Family, and to raise awareness of vulnerable children in the foster care system and human trafficking worldwide.
