Walking the Dreaming Serpent

A five part journey along that ancient Neolithic highway known as 'The Ridgeway' in the south of Britain that Tamsin, Nero an myself took in the Summer of 2024, aiming to arrive at Avebury Henge for Solstice.

In this episode we journey from Wayland's Smithy Long Barrow to the fairy mound at Hackpen Hill to wild camp for the night, before making the final push to Avebury Stone Circle.

That was the idea anyway. Will we make it?

On the way we met an old Pagan, who had been making the pilgrimage to Avebury for years, and reckoned he had discovered the true origin of the folklore of the Elf Smith Wayland.

We pass over the M4 motorway at Liddington. There is a common folktale associated with the village called Stone Soup.

And we explore Liddington Castle, a late Bronze Age and early Iron Age Hill Fort in Wiltshire which according to legend, is a possible location of the Mythical Mount Badon, where King Arthur defeated the Anglo Saxons.
