Start Thinking Like A Native Speaker In 3 Steps In A Foreign Language (Fast Track To Fluency)

Hi friends!

In my previous videos, a lot of you asked me how to think in a foreign language. So here I am discussing how to start thinking in a foreign language. This is how I practiced when I was learning English and Japanese. By the time I went abroad (Japan and the USA), I was able to switch my default brain from my native language (Korean) to my target languages (English and Japanese).

After I started thinking in those languages, I noticed that I started learning FASTER in these languages. So I highly recommend trying out this method in three steps.

Step 1 is reading aloud, which is one of my favorite language learning habits and I talked about this in quite a detail in this video "My Best Language Learning Habits" (link below). Here, not only you practice how t describe things by picking up lots of good descriptive phrases and vocabs, but you also signal your brain that this is what you are going to do in step 3.

In step 2, you practice describing things out loud. Basically you are making a habit of talking to yourself by describing what is around you and what is in your mind, of course, in your target language. Feel free to do this to your family and friends, but I would suggest that you do this mostly alone. Do this exercise over and over if necessary, until you get used to it. This step will serve as a great basis to describe things in your target language in your head in the next step.

In step 3, you are finally moving onto thinking in a foreign language. After the first two steps, if you are able to think in a foreign language quite comfortably, that's great. Try to make a habit of thinking in your target language. Your goal is to make this your default state.

But some of you might still have a hard time thinking in a foreign language. This is totally fine because it's a really hard thing to do. We all grew up in our native language. So I prepared some exercises in this step for you to try.
