In the past, a lack of grip and the widest wheels you could slap onto your chassis were the norm in drifting, but the sport has evolved. At The SEMA Show, Aaron Parker, a Formula D Pro2 driver, Pro1 mechanic, Netflix Hyperdrive contestant and all-round good guy gives us some insight into his experience concerning setting up your suspension for drifting as well some of the specialized parts required from dedicated companies like Parts Shop MAX to give the adjustability and reliability that your OEM components were never designed for.

Aaron discusses how the twitchy feeling that the FD RX7 chassis are known for was a major focus for removal when developing his setup, and he also discusses the Ackerman geometry setup changes via the P Shop MAX eccentric washer setup to get the desired handling predictability for drifting.

Also discussed are the toe and camber settings Aaron goes for front and reach which includes adjusting your setup based on the speed of the drivers you are competing against. This starts with ensuring there is 0 bump steer happening in the rear, then dialling things in anywhere from 0mm to 30mm of toe-in on the rear to give the car drive in and out of transitions, and hopefully a competitive edge.
