While out trail riding you should always be aware of what your horse is aware of. Paying attention to your horse and noticing what your horse is OK with and what he is concerned with is all part of good horsemanship. Anytime you are with your horse you should be looking for opportunities to help your horse grow and get past his fear.

THE WORST THING YOU CAN DO IS AVOID, STOP OR SHOW A HORSE THEIR FEAR IS JUSTIFIED.

This is a common mistake about sacking out, it should help the horse grow and deal with his fear better than his instinctive reaction to run, flee and live. Understanding horse fear and seeing the world as a horse sees it will help you understand why a horse does what it does. So anytime you are riding, walking or with your horse, and your horse shows concern, fear or reaction to something, THAT IS YOUR CLUE, address it, deal with it, pay attention and figure out how to help the horse get over his concern, fear or confusion, help him learn that when he is with you he may get scared, but that is ok, he DOES NOT get beat, hurt or feel pain from his fear. Hard to do when you get scared and grab your reins with a death grip and prevent the horse from moving with a metal pain bit in his mouth. Pain never works out or teaches well with horses.

So in this video, a young horse showed fear and tried to avoid a large tank in the field. Not missing this opportunity to help his horse, the rider took the time to show the horse it was ok, it was NOT a horse eating tank and helped the horse grow in confidence in himself and confidence and trust in his leader / rider.
