Leica 35mm Summicron First Impressions - Dream Lens!

The Leica 35mm Summicron is my dream lens for my year long film photography project!
The image character and build quality are incredible but I just spent all my money on the Leica MP and budget was an issue. How could I justify spending that much money on a lens? My unboxing and first impressions video has the answer!

This is version 2 of the Leica Summicron 35mm ASPH. lens that was released in 2016. Leica added one extra aperture blade (for better bokeh) and replaced the clip on plastic hood with a metal version that's ventilated so it doesn't block the optical viewfinder. These are nice additions but the important part is the classic Summicron rendering and this lens shines with that classic Leica look!

I’m starting a film photography project where I limit myself to one lens, one camera, and one film type for one year. The idea is to eliminate distractions so I can focus on the creative side of shooting with film.

I already splurged on the camera and picked up a brand new Leica MP. And now I have the 35mm Summicron as my lens. All that's left is to decide on what film I'm going to shoot.

It came down to Tri-X or HP5 Plus for me and I decided to go with HP5 this time around. It's WAAY cheaper than Tri-X plus I just like the way it looks! Grain is present but not overwhelming and the way it renders midtones is simply gorgeous! Plus HP5 can be pushed 2 or even 3 stops with excellent results so it's a film that will see me through to the end of this project no sweat.

So that's it! My kit is complete and I'm ready to start shooting my year long film photography project. Now the fun begins!
