Night Sky Live in 4K | 1 Year Timelapse

The goal of this stream is to provide a way for people around the world to bring the stars inside to the comfort of their homes. Another is to keep a record of an entire years worth of orbital motion, constellations, weather patterns, meteors, rockets, and just about anything else you might see if you were to stare at the sky for a year straight. So far, my little DIY all sky cam project has been recording (almost) constantly since November 1st, 2023, and streaming since October. On my channel you can see many experimental streams I set up while testing things. This stage began over a year ago at this point.

Update - May 1st, 2024: We are now at 6 months of continuous recording! Halfway there to a full year. I wonder what I will do when the year is up. Move the camera? Go for two? Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Some info about the setup:

Camera: ASI 678mc
Stream is broadcast at 1 fps to save data. The exposure times changes dynamically via software that matches the frames brightness to a specific target value. During the day the exposure length can be in microseconds while at night it can reach up to 20 seconds per frame. The daytime feed will pass at a rate of 1 fps. Long exposures at night are necessary to show as much detail as possible, and these can range between 1-2s when the moon is up and its cloudy, to 20s on a dark clear night.
There is a slight delay in the stream which changes depending on my internet connection strength. It usually hovers around 60s from real-time.

My fingers are crossed this project works out well, hopefully without destroying my camera, house, or sanity. If you have any issues with buffering, try and rewind the stream by 30-60s. I will try my best to provide as smooth an experience as possible. The stream can occasionally drop off due to circumstances outside of my control. I hope you enjoy!
