Manipur Violence: On July 29, tensions in Imphal heightened following two deaths. Two bodies belonging to members of the Meitei community were recovered in Haraothel village, on Kangpokpi district’s border with Imphal West, after heavy firing. The incident started around 5:30 a.m. with an attack on the Kuki village of Haraothel, which was followed by retaliatory firing from the Kuki side. After heavy firing subsided around 9 a.m., the two bodies were recovered from Haraothel, and the injured were moved to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences. The incident set off fresh tensions in the heart of Imphal on the evening of June 29.
