Greta Thunberg arrested during a climate protest in the Netherlands

Climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested on Saturday during a protest at the Hague in the Netherlands.

Thunberg and dozens of other protesters were detained after they blocked a major road in the Dutch city for several hours.

The 21-year-old was released, before rejoining another group of activists, where she was arrested again.

Before her arrest, Thunberg spoke to reporters and stated the world was in a “planetary emergency”.

“We are in a planetary emergency and we are not going to stand by and let people lose their lives and livelihood and be forced to become climate refugees when we can do something,” she said.

Several demonstrators have attempted to block the A12 highway in the Netherlands recently.

The activists were protesting the country’s subsidies and tax breaks for companies linked to fossil fuel industries.
