The Five Wounds refer to the five wounds of Christ and the story begins during Holy Week where Amadeo prepares himself for recreating Jesus’ crucifixion including hand piercing with real nails.

Meanwhile Amadeo’s pregnant teenage daughter, Angel, arrives at his and Yolanda’s door. The family’s pillar of strength finds out that she has a brain tumor, but hides this from her loved ones.
